The United States Patent and Trademark Office (Office or USPTO) sets or adjusts patent fees as authorized by the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act. The USPTO has announced that it will increase some of its fees effective from January 16, 2018. The changes will also apply to the international design applications under the Hague Agreement.

As part of efforts to increase transparency and generic drug competition, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is publishing patent submission dates to help generic drug manufacturers. “Abbreviated New Drug Applications and 505(b)(2) Applications,” and the Orange Book will now publish patent submission dates for all new records going forward.
